Week of September 25, 2017
Hello again Central parents ~ welcome to week 3
By now, we hope you’ve had the chance to read our Welcome Newsletter, start receiving FreshGrade email invitations and have become familiar with your son/daughter’s schedule.
Hard to believe this month is flying by, and it really has been a great start to 2017-18.
This week brings the following:
Fire Drill #1 – Tuesday @ 1:45pm. Teachers will review procedures with their block D classes.
Open House Evening ~ 6:30pm to 8:00pm. We look forward to seeing you and for you to get to meet our teachers.
Orange Shirt Day ~ Thursday. Orange Shirt Day is a nation-wide opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come. WHAT? It is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake, BC, Canada, in the spring of 2013. It grew out of Phyllis' story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually. WHY? To remember and respect everyone, survivors and those who passed, who suffered from the trauma of residential schools across Canada and to spread awareness about the historical importance and opportunity for reconciliation. HOW? Wearing Orange Shirts or Pins on Thursday, 28th. Grade 8 Leadership will have "Every Child Matters" Cutouts to pin on your own shirts OR if you own an orange shirt/sweater already, please wear it!
Next week brings:
School Photos – Monday, Oct 2nd
Thanksgiving Lunch – Friday, Oct 6th
